Rethinking the International: Contextualizing Pan-Africanism as an International Relations Framework

This article re-examines Pan-Africanism through the lens of international relations, challenging conventional approaches that often overlook African perspectives, histories, and intellectual traditions. It explores how Pan-African thought can provide an important framework for understanding Africa’s place in global affairs, international cooperation, identity, sovereignty, and contemporary geopolitical relations.

The article contributes to ongoing efforts to centre African knowledge and perspectives in the study of international relations and encourages a broader understanding of global politics beyond dominant Western frameworks.
