About the Webinar

The Launch of the Final Report on “Unlocking Sustainable Solutions for Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship through Indigenous Knowledge in Africa” is a landmark webinar designed to spotlight the transformative role of Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) in shaping sustainable economic opportunities for African youth.

Hosted as part of a multi-country research initiative spanning Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and South Africa, the event will present the final outcomes and insights gathered from extensive community-based research conducted between 2023 and 2026. The project explores how indigenous knowledge, cultural practices, and traditional community systems continue to influence entrepreneurship, innovation, livelihood creation, and local economic resilience across different African societies.

In many communities, indigenous knowledge remains deeply connected to agriculture, healthcare, environmental conservation, ecotourism, craftsmanship, and cultural enterprise. Despite its impact, these knowledge systems are often underrepresented in mainstream development conversations and policy frameworks. This webinar seeks to bridge that gap by highlighting practical examples of how local knowledge continues to empower young people, strengthen communities, and contribute to sustainable development efforts across the continent.

The session will feature presentations from researchers and contributors working directly with indigenous communities including the Ijaws and Ogoni in Nigeria, the Maasai and Ogiek communities in Kenya and Tanzania, the Batwa in Uganda, and the Abatwa and Nguni communities in South Africa. Through these case studies, participants will gain deeper insight into how culturally rooted approaches to entrepreneurship and community development can create meaningful and sustainable opportunities for youth.

Beyond presenting research findings, the webinar will provide a platform for dialogue among academics, policymakers, development practitioners, youth advocates, and organizations interested in inclusive economic growth. Discussions will focus on integrating indigenous knowledge into broader youth employment strategies, strengthening community participation in development initiatives, and fostering partnerships that support long-term economic empowerment across Africa.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage with thought leaders and stakeholders committed to advancing innovative, community-driven solutions that recognize the value of Africa’s indigenous knowledge systems in building a more sustainable and inclusive future.
