Batwa RWG in a cocreation meeting in Uganda

In a powerful step toward inclusion and community-driven development, members of the Batwa Rights Working Group (RWG) recently participated in a co-creation meeting held in Uganda. The gathering brought together Batwa representatives, local leaders, civil society partners, and development practitioners, all with one shared goal to listen, learn, and co-design solutions that reflect the real needs and lived experiences of the Batwa people.

For decades, the Batwa one of Uganda’s Indigenous communities have faced social exclusion, land displacement, and limited access to basic services. The co-creation meeting offered a rare and meaningful space where Batwa voices were not only heard but placed at the center of the conversation.

During the discussions, Batwa representatives shared their stories, challenges, and ideas for shaping more equitable development programs. Topics ranged from securing land rights and improving access to education, to preserving cultural identity and strengthening community resilience.
